Hotels in Douglas
Douglas has more hotels than the rest of the island put together, and most of them sit on or just off the two-mile seafront promenade. That is the main thing to decide: a room on the front, looking across the bay to the Tower of Refuge with the horse trams passing below, or a quieter one in the town behind, closer to the shops and usually easier for parking.
The promenade runs from the Sea Terminal at the southern end to Derby Castle at the northern one, so a hotel on the front is within walking distance of the ferry, the bus station and the Manx Electric Railway. If you are arriving as a foot passenger, that matters more than anything else on the listing.
Rooms across the town book out entirely during TT fortnight and again for the Manx Grand Prix, so if your dates fall in either, book as far ahead as you can. If a hotel is not what you want, the town also has family-run guest houses and self-catering apartments.
On the promenade
Front-facing rooms look east across Douglas Bay. The horse tramway runs along the promenade outside, and the walk into the town centre from anywhere on the front is short and flat.
Behind the front
Hotels a street or two back trade the sea view for a quieter night and easier parking, and they are generally closer to the shops, restaurants and the Manx Museum.
Arriving by ferry
The Sea Terminal is at the southern end of the promenade, in the town rather than out of it. Foot passengers can walk to most central hotels; check the listing's position on the front before you book if you are carrying luggage.
