Guest Houses in Douglas

Guest houses are the traditional Douglas stay. Most are in the terraces immediately behind the promenade, in the tall Victorian houses built for exactly this purpose when the town was a summer resort for the north of England. They are smaller than the hotels, usually run by the people who own them, and breakfast is generally part of the deal — check the individual listing, because it is not universal.

They suit couples and solo travellers better than large groups, and they suit anyone who would rather be looked after by a person than a front desk. Being a street or two back from the front, they are also usually quieter at night than a promenade room, while still being a few minutes' walk from the sea.

If you would rather cook for yourself, look at the town's apartments instead.

Where they are

Mostly in the residential streets running back from the promenade — close enough to walk to the front in a couple of minutes, far enough back to sleep through the night.

Breakfast

Most include it and several cook it to order, but it varies by property. The listing states what is included, and it is worth checking before you book rather than assuming.

Who they suit

Couples, solo travellers and anyone visiting for a few nights who wants somewhere personal. Larger family groups are usually better served by a whole apartment.
