Magnolia Lodge is a detached single-storey lodge in open country outside Peel, one of a small group sharing the same run of lawn and the same long view west towards the hills.

A wide concrete drive comes right up to the door with grass on both sides and a planted gravel bed at the corner, so parking is a matter of stopping outside. Behind the lodge the ground is flat and open, and a picnic bench sits out where the lawn meets the path.

Blush, oak and open plan

The living end is done in soft pinks and terracotta: two navy leather sofas, blush cushions and a throw, abstract prints in peach and rust, and a faded patterned rug across the boards. A television is fixed above the console and glazed doors open onto the grass. The kitchen fills the far wall in white units and oak worktop, with oven, hob, microwave, dishwasher and toaster, and a wooden table with white chairs pulled up to it.

Beds for four

One bedroom has an extra-large double with blush bedding and shutters at the window. The second takes two single beds beneath a pair of bright botanical prints. Both have a wardrobe, and one adds a small desk and chair. The shower room is white and plainly done, with a basin unit, WC and a black heated towel rail.

Grass, gravel and a barbecue

There is lawn on three sides, a barbecue, and the bench outside for eating out when the weather allows it.

Towards Peel and the sea

The lodge sits inland from Peel, where the castle stands over the harbour and Fenella Beach curves below it.

Who it fits

Families of four, or two couples travelling together who each want their own front door.
