About Peel Beach and Breakwater
Peel's sandy beach curves round the bay beneath the castle, with the town's stone breakwater running out to a small lighthouse at its far end — a favourite spot for watching the sun go down over the water, since Peel faces west, unusually for a Manx harbour town. Fishing boats still work out of Peel Harbour, the island's busiest fishing port, and two working kipper houses near the quay — Moore's and Devereau's, both founded in 1884 — continue to smoke herring the traditional way, filling the harbour street with woodsmoke on a working day.
