About Peel Castle
Peel Castle occupies the whole of St Patrick's Isle, a small islet joined to Peel by a causeway, and its curtain walls of red sandstone are visible from most of the town. The site has been fortified since the Vikings, and its ruins include the roofless Cathedral of St German, once the seat of the Diocese of Sodor and Man, alongside earlier round tower and chapel remains from the island's early Christian period. Norse, medieval and later Manx history are stacked on top of one another here in a way few other sites on the island can match, and the walk around the outer walls gives a full circuit of the harbour and bay.
