Douglas Head Road

Number 18 stands on Head Road, the street that climbs out of Douglas towards the headland above the bay. It is a two-bedroom apartment on one level, and unusually for a flat this size it has two bathrooms and two separate sitting rooms.

The door opens onto a white-tiled hallway that runs the length of the place, rooms leading off it and a utility corner with the washing machine at the far end. Once you are in, everything is flat underfoot.

Two sitting rooms and a galley kitchen

The kitchen is a narrow run of cream units with a wooden worktop, an oven and a microwave, and a small table for two set under the window. A second dining table sits in a room of its own, laid for four on white tile. Both lounges are carpeted and comfortable rather than styled, with tan leather armchairs, a flat-screen television above the fireplace and damask paper on one wall. A dishwasher and a tumble dryer take the drudgery out of a longer stay.

Sleeping six across two rooms

The main bedroom has a dark floral feature wall, striped carpet, a mirrored wardrobe and two double beds, one of them a larger double. Its ensuite is tiled in stone effect with a shower and a heated rail. The second bedroom is made up with two singles in cream and gold. A second bathroom serves it, with a shower set over a corner bath.

Down the hill into town

Head Road sits above Douglas, so the promenade, the shops and Douglas Beach are a walk down the hill and a steadier pull back up.

Who it works for

Two families travelling together, or one large one, given the split of a double room and a twin. It also suits a working stay, with a desk, laundry and a kitchen you can actually cook in.
