About Isle of Man Steam Railway (Douglas Station)
Douglas station is the northern terminus of the Isle of Man Steam Railway, a narrow-gauge line that opened in 1874 and once reached across most of the island. Only the route south to Port Erin, via Castletown and Ballasalla, still runs, but it's the longest surviving narrow-gauge steam railway in the British Isles operating substantially on its original infrastructure. The Victorian station building, engine shed and original locomotives — several over a century old — give it a working-museum feel rather than a heritage-park one.
