34 Peel Road

34 Peel Road is a set of apartments carved out of a tall grey Victorian townhouse in Douglas. The windows are what you notice first: arched sashes side by side across the front of the living room, filling it with sky.

A flight of stone steps climbs from the pavement to a navy front door beneath the bay, with a tree and a palm leaning in over the railings. Inside, a stairwell winds up under more arched glass.

The living space is open plan and painted white, with wooden boards underfoot and recessed spots overhead. A glass dining table stands in the window with granite-flecked mats on it, the sofa faces a wall-mounted screen with streaming apps already loaded, and a desk sits in the corner for anyone working. The kitchen runs along one wall in dark units under pale wood cupboards: oven, hob, microwave, toaster and fridge, plus a washing machine and tumble dryer. The rooms are soundproofed.

The bedroom is carpeted in charcoal and kept plain, with an upholstered headboard, white bedding, a mustard cushion and a round mirror on the wall. The beds are the extra-long sort, worth knowing if anyone in the party is tall. The sofa folds out, so the one bedroom sleeps four. The bathroom is white and current, with a sliding-door shower enclosure and a heated towel rail.

Peel Road, which is in Douglas

The name is a signpost rather than an address. Manx main roads are named for the town they run to, and this one heads west out of the capital, so the flat sits in Douglas with the shops and the seafront within walking distance. The bay windows at the back look over rooftops to green hills.

Who it is set up for

A couple who want a whole flat rather than a hotel room, or four happy to share one bedroom and a sofa bed. The kitchen, washer and dryer make a longer stay straightforward.
