The Croft

The Croft is a whitewashed cottage on Jurby Road at Ramsey, refitted recently and thoroughly. Charcoal carpet, white walls and one deep teal panel to break it up: it is a lot more contemporary inside than the slate roof and painted stone suggest.

From the front you see that slate roof, the old walls, and a glazed garden room built out under its own pitch. There is hardstanding to park on, and the door goes straight into the living space.

The teal wall and the garden room

The lounge takes two cream sofas around a low square table in warm timber, with slim upright radiators and a television mounted on the teal panel. A door leads through to the glazed room, where a table is set for four with windows on three sides looking onto a stone wall and trees. The kitchen behind it is a recent fit, white gloss units against a dark worktop, with a tall fridge-freezer, oven, microwave, dishwasher and washing machine.

Beds for five

The bedroom holds a double and a single, under a sloping ceiling with a beam across it and a television on the wall. The sofa in the living room converts, which brings the house to five. The shower room is lined on one side in timber board and has a walk-in shower, a basin on a grey vanity unit and a heated rail for towels.

Off Jurby Road

Jurby Road is one of the ways into Ramsey, so the harbour, the quay, the beach and the shops all sit in one direction, and the open north of the island in the other. It is a quiet address to come back to at the end of a day.

A house, not a room

Two people who want a whole house rather than a room, with enough beds to bring family or friends. The kitchen and the washing machine earn their keep on a longer stay, and the garden room is a good place to eat when the weather has other ideas.
