About Queen's Pier, Ramsey
A Victorian iron pier opened in 1886, built to let steamers land passengers and cargo at Ramsey at any state of the tide. At roughly 700 metres it was one of the longest piers in the British Isles, but it fell out of use once car ferries replaced the old steamer routes, and it has been closed to general public access for many years on safety grounds. The Queen's Pier Restoration Trust now looks after the structure and is working through a long-term restoration, running occasional supervised open days as work progresses. Even closed, it remains a striking landmark stretching out from Ramsey's northern shore.
