Mount Auldyn House - The Cottage

The Cottage is the single-storey wing of Mount Auldyn House, a white Georgian country house standing in its own grounds on the Jurby Road at the edge of Ramsey. It has its own front door, and the run of the gardens beyond it.

Up the drive

You come in across a paved and cobbled courtyard, with room to leave the car beside the French doors. From the lawns the main house shows its full cream elevation, a stone fountain in front of it, mature trees behind, and hills closing off the view inland.

Behind the French doors

One long room runs the depth of the cottage, in oak boards and off-white walls, hung with a wall of small framed prints. A teal velvet sofa faces a fitted bookcase and television. A round table and four chairs sit at the other end, and the kitchen is built into the same space in soft green shaker units, with oven, hob, dishwasher, washing machine and a coffee machine.

The four-poster

The bedroom is furnished with antiques, a carved dark-wood four-poster and a mahogany chest of drawers set against pale carpet, and it sleeps two. There are two bathrooms, the main one lined in white marble with a bath, a grey vanity unit and a round mirror. Robes and toiletries are put out for you.

The terrace and the grounds

A walled stone terrace runs along the front, laid with deep rattan sofas and armchairs, an outdoor dining table and a barbecue. Clipped box edges the paving. Under the trees on the lawn there is a second seating area, and from the higher ground the wooded river valley opens out below.

A base for

Couples who want room and quiet without being stranded. Ramsey is a short drive down the same road, and the lanes north and west run straight out into open country.
