Lazy Lodge

Lazy Lodge is a small detached building on Springfield Terrace in Foxdale, a former mining village in the middle of the Manx hills. It is all on one floor, behind its own front door.

You walk up to cream render, a deep red roof and matching window frames, the name in gold lettering on a slate plaque beside the door. A low sandstone wall runs along the front, the lawn behind it is trimmed flat, and two framed harbour pictures hang out on the render.

One room, done properly

Inside is a single open space under a vaulted ceiling, with roof lights set into the slope and slatted blinds at the windows. A grey two-seater sofa with orange cushions sits by the door, a flat-screen television facing it from the wall. A kettle, cups and a tray are set out ready, and storage is built in: white wardrobes, a chest of drawers, a mirror.

The bed under the slope

One large double stands against a padded charcoal headboard, under bold orange, navy and white geometric bedding that gives the grey room all its colour. It suits two. The bathroom opens off the same space: a walk-in shower behind glass, a mosaic tile stripe, a walnut vanity and a frosted window.

The lawn and the paving

There is grass on two sides and a paved patio stepped down from it, with planted troughs at the corners. One window looks across to green fields and rising ground.

Foxdale, and the road down to Peel

Foxdale is an old mining village up in the hills, and the nearest town is Peel, where the castle stands on St Patrick’s Isle above Fenella Beach. Hill roads run out of the village in every direction.

Who it suits

Two people who want a quiet, self-contained base inland, with a car and the west coast within reach.
