About this property
Voyage Hostel occupies one of the tall Victorian terraces on Murrays Road, set back a little from the Douglas seafront. It is a sociable sort of place rather than a quiet one, and it is built around a kitchen that everybody uses.
Arrival is straightforward. There is a key safe beside the door, and a paved forecourt out front laid out with picnic benches and wooden loungers behind a low hedge, with the rest of the terrace running away down the street.
The kitchen with the stone wall
The heart of the building is a long communal kitchen where one wall has been stripped back to bare stone. White units run along the opposite side with an oven, microwave, dishwasher, toaster and kettle, and a black breakfast bar with high stools faces them. Past that sits a scrubbed pine picnic table so everyone has somewhere to eat, and there is a flat-screen television in the dining area. Two listings share this building, so expect company in here.
Bunks behind curtains
The rooms are given over to bunks, some in black metal frames and others in pale untreated pine, made up with white linen. Most berths have a curtain you can pull across for privacy, a socket beside the bed, and a wardrobe or clothes rack, with a drying rack for wet coats. Bathrooms are shared, tiled and bright, with showers, hairdryers and towels provided.
The forecourt out front
That paved terrace is the outdoor room: benches, tables and loungers, and a decent spot to sit with a mug once the walking is done. There are more picnic tables inside for wetter days.
Down toward the bay
Douglas Beach is an easy walk away, and the shops, ferry terminal and seafront of Douglas follow the same curve of the bay. The Isle of Man Airport is a drive out of town.
Who it works for
Solo travellers, walkers and groups who want a bed, a proper kitchen and someone to talk to over breakfast.
