About Douglas Promenade
A near two-mile sweep of Victorian and Edwardian seafront around Douglas Bay, still carrying the horse tramway down its centre and the electric railway at its northern end. The promenade was laid out in the boom years of Manx seaside tourism and its long terraces of guesthouses and hotels, many still recognisably Victorian in outline, curve the whole way round to Douglas Head at the southern end of the bay. It remains the town's civic spine as much as its seafront — war memorials, the Gaiety Theatre and the harbour all sit along or just off it.
