The hot tub by the waterfall - facilities included

The name is literal. Behind this house at Lower Foxdale a hot tub sits on a timber deck with a waterfall coming down through the trees beside it and steam lifting off the water into the woodland.

Millhouse is a semi-detached house on the valley road, and it turns its back on the road entirely. The living side faces the trees, with balconies stacked up the rear elevation above the deck and a fall of woodland below.

One long open floor

Inside runs as a single open space: a kitchen in pale handleless units with integrated appliances and wood-effect worktops, a dining table laid with bright bowls, then sofas and a wall-mounted TV at the far end. Dishwasher, washing machine and tumble dryer are all here, which is what makes a full house workable. A timber outbuilding is fitted out as a gym, with a treadmill, a bench and a rack of plates.

Beds behind the patio doors

Two bedrooms, each holding a pair of double beds, one of the pair extra-large. With the sofa bed in the living room that takes the house to ten. Both bedrooms open through glazed doors onto a balcony above the trees, and there are three bathrooms between them, one with a spa bath, so nobody queues.

The deck and the falls

The hot tub is the reason people come. It sits on decking a few steps from the waterfall, screened by trees on every side, and from above it reads as a clearing cut out of the woodland.

Foxdale and the west coast

Lower Foxdale lies inland in the old lead-mining valley below South Barrule, with lanes running up into the hills in every direction. The nearest town is Peel, over on the west coast, where the castle stands on St Patrick’s Isle and Fenella Beach sits below the walls.

Best for

Two families together, or a group who want a hot tub and a kitchen big enough to cook for everyone. A driving base rather than a walking one.
