Lower Milntown Farm

Lower Milntown Farm is a white farmhouse on Lezayre Road, at the edge of Ramsey where the streets give out to fields. Jacqueline lets the whole house, and its garden has been planted and tended over decades rather than laid out in a weekend.

You reach the red front door past deep borders of agapanthus, hydrangea and grasses growing against the render, with lawn running to mature trees.

The kitchen and the long table

The kitchen is fitted in cream shaker units with a patterned tile splashback and a hob set into the worktop, and the window above the sink looks into the trees. There is a dishwasher and an oven, and a utility room for the washing machine and tumble dryer. The dining room next door seats six around an oak table, with a sofa and flat-screen beyond.

Three doubles and a roll-top bath

Three bedrooms, each with a large double, mean the house sleeps six. They are furnished like a family home rather than a rental: an oak slatted headboard and floral cover in one, a mirror on a console of basket drawers in another, the third tucked under the roof. Of the two bathrooms, one holds a roll-top bath against white metro tiling.

The garden and the giant chessboard

The garden is the reason to take this house. Flower beds are banked along the lawn, a paved terrace holds a white cast-iron table and chairs among pots, and a giant chess set stands on a black and white board with a picnic bench beside it. Past the hedge the fields begin.

Down the Lezayre Road

The road leads into the centre of Ramsey, where the harbour, the shops and the long beach are; the other way runs west under the northern hills. There is an electric vehicle charging point at the house.

Who it works for

A family or two couples after a garden to sit out in and a kitchen to cook in, with the town along the road and open country beyond the hedge.
