About The Chasms
A stretch of coastline near Cregneash where the cliffs have split into deep, narrow fissures — some several metres wide and running back a long way from the cliff edge — created by movement along the rock over thousands of years. Paths wind between the fissures and out to Spanish Head and Black Head nearby, both nesting sites for seabirds. It's dramatic, slightly disorienting walking country: the cracks are genuinely deep and the ground between them uneven, so it rewards a careful pace rather than a rushed one.
