About Cregneash Folk Village
Cregneash is a working crofting settlement at the island's southern tip, preserved as it looked in the late 19th and early 20th centuries, and it's generally counted the oldest open-air folk museum in the British Isles. Thatched cottages including Harry Kelly's Cottage give a close view of ordinary rural Manx life, and the village keeps a flock of Loaghtan sheep, a rare four-horned breed native to the island. It also holds a place in the story of the Manx language: Ned Maddrell, the last native speaker of Manx, lived in Cregneash, and the village remains closely tied to efforts to keep the language alive.
