About Snaefell Summit
At 621 metres, Snaefell is the highest point on the Isle of Man and the only summit that clears 2,000 feet. It's reached by the Snaefell Mountain Railway from Laxey or on foot from several points along the TT Mountain Course. The often-repeated claim is that on a clear day you can see six kingdoms from the top — England, Scotland, Wales, Ireland, Man and, weather depending, the sea and sky counted as the other two. In practice the summit is frequently in cloud, which is part of its character: the island's high ground catches whatever the Irish Sea is doing before anywhere else does.
