About Snaefell Mountain Railway
An electric mountain railway that climbs from Laxey to the summit of Snaefell, the island's only peak over 600 metres, using the same rolling stock and overhead-wire technology it opened with in 1895. The single-track line runs alongside the TT Mountain Course for part of its climb before curving away up open moorland. It's a working railway rather than a funfair ride — the carriages are original Victorian-era cars, still in everyday service — and the trip up is as much the attraction as the summit itself.
