About Groudle Glen Railway
A narrow-gauge miniature railway running through a wooded glen just north of Douglas, on the boundary of Onchan and Lonan. It first opened in 1896 to carry Victorian day-trippers from a tram halt down through the glen to a small headland attraction at Sea Lion Rocks, and after decades of closure it has been rebuilt and is now run entirely by volunteers. The short run through the glen to the coast, with the original stone-built stations, gives a good sense of how seaside entertainment worked on the island well over a century ago.
