About Manx Electric Railway (Derby Castle)
The Derby Castle terminus at the northern end of Douglas promenade is the starting point for the Manx Electric Railway, a coastal tramway that has run to Laxey and on to Ramsey since 1893 — making it one of the oldest electric railways in the world still running much of its original rolling stock. The route hugs cliffs and glens along the east coast rather than taking the inland road, so the views from the open-sided cars are a large part of the appeal. It's also the connecting point for the Snaefell Mountain Railway further up the line at Laxey.
