About Curraghs Wildlife Park
A wetland zoo set in the Ballaugh Curraghs, an area of boggy woodland and marsh in the island's north-west that is itself a distinct wildlife habitat. The park, government-owned and opened in 1965, houses around a hundred species from wetland and forest environments worldwide in mostly walk-through enclosures, alongside a small children's farm and a miniature railway. Boardwalks and nature trails run out into the surrounding curragh itself, so the park doubles as an introduction to one of the island's more unusual native landscapes.
